He received his education at Trinity College Dublin before proceeding to the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, to embark on a military career.
Military Career Lloyd was commissioned into the British Army and served with distinction over several decades. He saw active service during the Second Boer War (1899-1902) in South Africa. During World War I, he played a significant role, rising through the ranks to Lieutenant Colonel. For his gallantry and leadership during the conflict, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), a prestigious military honour. He retired from military service following the end of World War I.
Cricket Career As a right-handed batsman, John Hardress Lloyd had a notable first-class cricket career. He represented Dublin University during his time at Trinity College. His debut for the Ireland cricket team came in 1895, and he went on to play 15 first-class matches for his country. He frequently captained the Irish side, showcasing his leadership both on and off the field. His cricket career spanned from 1895 to 1907, during which he was recognized for his elegant batting and strategic acumen.
Later Life and Death Following his retirement from both his military and cricket pursuits, Lloyd resided in England. He passed away on 10 March 1941 in Folkestone, Kent, England, at the age of 66.
