John Eston (by 1518 – 1565) was an English politician who served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for several constituencies during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I.
Early life and background
The exact date of Eston's birth is uncertain; records indicate he was born by 1518. He was associated with Southwark in Surrey and the Inner Temple, London, suggesting a professional connection to the legal profession.
Parliamentary career
Eston's parliamentary service spanned more than a decade and included representation of three different boroughs:
- Wigan – elected MP in the Parliament of 1545‑1547, during the latter part of Henry VIII’s reign.
- Cirencester – elected MP in the Parliament of 1547‑1552, convened under Edward VI.
- Southwark – elected MP on multiple occasions: March 1553 (Edward VI), April 1554 and November 1554 (Mary I), 1555 (Mary I), 1558 (Mary I), and 1559 (Elizabeth I).
These repeated elections for Southwark indicate Eston maintained a sustained political presence in the constituency across successive monarchs and shifting religious and political contexts.
Later life and death
John Eston died in 1565. Details of his activities after his final parliamentary term in 1559 are not recorded in surviving historical sources.
