John D. Hawks is an American biological anthropologist and professor of anthropology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He earned his Ph.D. in Anthropology from Harvard University in 2005, focusing on paleoanthropology and ancient DNA. Hawks’ research concentrates on human evolutionary genetics, including the analysis of ancient genomes to elucidate population history, disease susceptibility, and the biological impacts of climate change on past human groups. He has contributed to studies on the genomics of Neanderthals, early modern humans, and the peopling of the Americas.
