John Crotty (born June 2, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player who competed in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and various European leagues. Following his playing career, he worked as a scout for NBA organizations.

John Michael Crotty was born in West Des Moines, Iowa, United States. He attended Valley High School in West Des Moines, where he excelled in basketball, earning All-State honors. Crotty enrolled at the University of Iowa, playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes men's basketball team from 1989 to 1993.
College career
At Iowa, Crotty was a point guard known for his playmaking abilities. He became the Hawkeyes' all‑time leader in assists (779) and ranks among the program’s leaders in steals. He received All‑Big Ten Conference recognition in his senior year and helped the team secure NCAA Tournament appearances.
Professional career

Crotty entered the NBA as an undrafted free agent, signing with the Utah Jazz in 1993.
