John Henry de la Poer Beresford (7 February 1844 – 22 February 1895) was an Irish peer who succeeded as the 5th Marquess of Waterford upon the death of his father, Henry Beresford, 4th Marquess of Waterford, in 1866. He held the subsidiary titles of Earl of Waterford, Earl of Tyrone, Viscount Beresford, and Baron Waterford.
Born into the prominent Beresford family, Beresford was educated at Eton College and later served as a captain in the Royal Irish Regiment. He was appointed Lord Lieutenant of County Waterford, a position he held from 1874 until his death in 1895, representing the Crown in the county.
In 1868, he married Lady Beatrice Frances Gainsborough, daughter of the 5th Earl of Gainsborough. The marriage produced several children, including his heir, Henry Beresford, who became the 6th Marquess of Waterford.
The 5th Marquess was known for his involvement in local affairs in County Waterford, including patronage of agricultural shows and support for infrastructure projects. He died at the family seat, Curraghmore House, in County Waterford, and was succeeded by his son.
