Joel Scherban (born April 22, 1980) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and coach. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the seventh round (196th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
Early Life and Junior Career Scherban was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. He played junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the London Knights from 1996 to 2000.
University Career Following his OHL career, Scherban played for the Lakehead University Thunderwolves in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS, now U Sports). He served as team captain for five seasons and remained with the club through the 2005–06 season. He finished as the program's all-time leader in points with 179.

Coaching Career Scherban later returned to Lakehead University as head coach of the Thunderwolves men's ice hockey team. He held the position from 2009 until four games into the 2012–13 season, when he was relieved of his duties and replaced on an interim basis by former NHL defenceman Mike Busniuk.
Playing Style and Statistics Scherban played as a centre, shooting left-handed. He stood 6 ft 2 in (188 cm) and weighed 207 lb (94 kg). His playing career spanned from 1996 to 2006.
