Joaquim Martins Basto (born 25 November 1948) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a defender. His career spanned over a decade, predominantly in the Primeira Liga, Portugal's top football division.
Career
Basto began his senior career in the late 1960s. He notably played for F.C. Famalicão from 1969 to 1972, where he made 66 appearances across all competitions. His performances led him to S.C. Farense, a club where he established himself as a key defender, making 137 appearances and scoring 3 goals between 1972 and 1977.Following his successful spell at Farense, Basto joined G.D. Estoril Praia, contributing 82 appearances from 1977 to 1980. He concluded his professional career after a season with Amora F.C. in 1980-1981, making 18 appearances for the club. Throughout his career, Basto was known for his robust defensive play and consistency, contributing to his teams in the demanding environment of Portuguese top-flight football.
