Joan Nabirye (born 17 May 1998) is a Ugandan professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Turkish Women's Football Super League club Hakkarigücü Spor and the Uganda women's national team.
Club Career
Nabirye began her professional career in Uganda, playing for prominent clubs such as She Corporate FC. Her talent soon garnered international attention, leading her to join Tanzanian champions Simba Queens. During her tenure with Simba Queens, she was an integral part of their success, contributing to their victory in the Tanzanian Women's Premier League.In 2022, Nabirye ventured into European football, signing with Belarusian giants FK Minsk. With FK Minsk, she gained valuable experience on the continental stage, participating in the UEFA Women's Champions League qualifiers during the 2022-23 season and winning the Belarusian Women's Premier League. Following her spell in Belarus, she briefly moved to Kazakhstan to play for Astana before making a move to Turkey.
Since 2023, Nabirye has been a key player for Hakkarigücü Spor in the Turkish Women's Football Super League, where she continues to exert her influence in the midfield.
International Career
Nabirye is a core member of the Uganda women's national football team, affectionately known as the "Crested Cranes." She has consistently represented her country in various regional and continental competitions.She played a crucial role in Uganda's successful qualification for the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), marking a significant milestone in the history of Ugandan women's football. Nabirye was also instrumental in the Crested Cranes' triumph in the 2022 CECAFA Women's Championship, a prestigious regional tournament, further solidifying her importance to the national squad.
