Jinzhou–Chengde railway

The Jinzhou–Chengde railway (Chinese 锦承铁路) is a heavy‑rail line in northeastern China that carries both passenger and freight traffic. Operated on standard gauge (1,435 mm), the line is electrified at 25 kV 50 Hz AC and supports maximum operating speeds of up to 120 km/h (75 mph).

Route and termini
The railway connects Jinzhou in Liaoning Province with Chengde in Hebei Province. Its western terminus is at Jinzhou railway station, while the eastern terminus is at Shangbencheng railway station (a planned or unbuilt station referenced in sources).

Purpose and traffic
A principal function of the line is to transport coal mined in Inner Mongolia to seaports in Liaoning for export. Passenger services also run on the route, linking communities along its corridor.

Recent upgrades

  • A new double‑track section between Yebaishou station (Jianping County) and Chaoyang South station (Shuangta District) was opened on 24 December 2019, replacing an earlier single‑track alignment.
  • The segment from Jinzhou to Chaoyang South was upgraded, resulting in the closure of several intermediate stations—Zhoujiatun, Nanling, Beipao South, Nenjia, Dayingzi, and Dongdadao—and an increase in line speed from 100 km/h to 120 km/h.

Incidents
On 12 April 2020 a passenger train traveling at approximately 50 km/h derailed near Chaoyang City while en route from Chifeng South to Shanhaiguan. No casualties were reported, and the line was reopened the following day.

The Jinzhou–Chengde railway remains an operational component of China’s rail network, contributing to regional freight logistics and passenger mobility.
