Early Life and Junior Career

Born James Robert Francis on October 26, 1958, in [[Aldergrove, British Columbia]], Canada, Jim Francis developed his hockey skills in the junior ranks. He played for the [[Calgary Centennials]] and later the [[Victoria Cougars]] in the [[Western Canada Hockey League]] (WCHL), which was subsequently renamed the [[Western Hockey League]] (WHL). His strong play as a defenceman during his junior career attracted the attention of professional scouts.

Professional Career

Francis was selected by the [[Boston Bruins]] in the fourth round, 61st overall, of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft. Although drafted by Boston, his NHL debut came with the [[Atlanta Flames]] during the 1979–80 season, where he played 48 games, contributing 2 goals and 7 assists for 9 points.

After the Atlanta Flames relocated and were rebranded as the [[Calgary Flames]], Francis was traded to the [[New York Rangers]]. He played 41 games for the Rangers across two seasons (1980–81 and 1981–82), recording 1 goal and 7 assists for 8 points during his tenure with the team.

Beyond his NHL career, Francis also spent considerable time playing in various minor professional leagues. These included stints in the [[World Hockey Association]] (WHA) with the [[Birmingham Bulls]] prior to his NHL career, and in the [[American Hockey League]] (AHL) with teams such as the [[New Brunswick Hawks]], [[Springfield Indians]], and [[Binghamton Whalers]]. He also played in the [[Central Hockey League]] (CHL) for the [[Tulsa Oilers]]. His professional playing career spanned from the late 1970s to the mid-1980s.
