Later, he attended Capital University Law School, receiving his Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. After completing his education, Davis worked as an attorney and also maintained a career in farming.
Political Career Davis's political career in the Ohio House of Representatives spanned several non-consecutive terms due to Ohio's legislative term limits.
-
First Tenure (1993-2000): Davis was first elected to the Ohio House of Representatives in 1992, representing the 92nd District. He served four consecutive two-year terms until he was term-limited in 2000. During this period, he became known for his involvement in agricultural and legal policy.

Second Tenure (2005-2012): After a hiatus mandated by term limits, Davis successfully ran for the Ohio House again in 2004, this time representing the 90th District, which included parts of Adams, Scioto, Pike, and Jackson counties. He served another four consecutive terms, from 2005 to 2012, before being term-limited once more.
Throughout his time in the legislature, Davis was a prominent member of several key committees, including the Finance and Appropriations Committee, the Judiciary Committee, and the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee. He often served as the chairman of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, leveraging his background in agronomy and farming to influence policy on rural development, environmental conservation, and agricultural business. His legislative efforts frequently addressed state budgeting, legal reforms, and support for Ohio's agricultural sector.
Post-Legislative Career Following his final departure from the Ohio House in 2012, Jim Davis returned to his legal practice and farming interests in Southern Ohio. He remains involved in community affairs in his home region.
