Jerry Darnell Stackhouse (born November 5, 1974) is an American former professional basketball player, current college basketball coach, and former broadcaster. A two-time NBA All-Star, Stackhouse was known for his athletic prowess, scoring ability, and versatility as a swingman during his playing career. After retiring as a player, he transitioned into coaching, finding success in the NBA G League before becoming a head coach in NCAA Division I college basketball.
Early Life and College Career
Born in Kinston, North Carolina, Stackhouse attended Kinston High School, where he excelled in basketball. He committed to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, playing under legendary coach Dean Smith. During his two seasons with the Tar Heels (1993–1995), Stackhouse became one of the nation's premier college players, forming a dynamic duo with fellow future NBA star Rasheed Wallace. In his sophomore year (1994–95), he averaged 19.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game, earning consensus First-Team All-American honors and being named ACC Player of the Year. He was traded to the Detroit Pistons early in the 1997–98 season.
- Detroit Pistons (1997–2002): In Detroit, Stackhouse truly blossomed into an NBA star. He had his most productive years with the Pistons, earning two NBA All-Star selections (2000, 2001). During the 2000–01 season, he averaged a career-high 29.8 points per game, finishing second in the league in scoring behind Allen Iverson. He was a dynamic offensive force, known for his powerful dunks and ability to score from anywhere on the court.
- Washington Wizards (2002–2004): Stackhouse was traded to the Wizards in 2002. His tenure in Washington was productive when healthy, but was marred by injuries, particularly to his knees.
- Dallas Mavericks (2004–2008): Stackhouse joined the Mavericks in 2004, transitioning into a valuable sixth man role. He was an integral part of the Mavericks team that reached the NBA Finals in 2006, providing instant offense and veteran leadership off the bench.

In his first season, he led the team to the 2017 G League Championship and was named the G League Coach of the Year. - Memphis Grizzlies Assistant Coach (2018–2019): He served one season as an assistant coach for the Memphis Grizzlies.
- Vanderbilt Commodores Head Coach (2019–present): In 2019, Stackhouse was hired as the head coach of the Vanderbilt University men's basketball team, marking his entry into NCAA Division I head coaching.
