Jennifer Shamalla is a Kenyan lawyer and politician who served as a Nominated Member of the National Assembly of Kenya. She held her position during the 12th Parliament (2017–2022) after being nominated by the Jubilee Party to represent special interests.
Shamalla is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a long-standing member of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK). Prior to her parliamentary career, she was involved in legal practice and civil society, focusing on human rights and legal reform.
During her tenure in the National Assembly, Shamalla was an active member of the Departmental Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs. She is notably recognized for her legislative contributions toward personal data privacy; she was the sponsor of the Data Protection Bill, which was enacted into law as the Data Protection Act, 2019. This legislation established the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner and created a legal framework for the processing of personal data in Kenya.
In addition to her legislative work, Shamalla has participated in various international and regional forums concerning the rule of law, governance, and the protection of marginalized groups. Her professional background continues to focus on the intersection of law, policy, and human rights within the Kenyan constitutional framework.
