Jeff Maggert

Jeff Maggert (born February 20, 1964) is an American professional golfer who has competed on the PGA Tour and currently plays on the PGA Tour Champions. Known for his consistent play and strong all-around game, Maggert has achieved success at both the mainstream and senior levels of professional golf.

Early Life and Amateur Career Maggert was born in Columbia, Missouri. He attended Texas A&M University, where he was a standout collegiate golfer. During his time at Texas A&M, he earned All-American honors in 1985.

Professional Career

PGA Tour Maggert turned professional in 1986. He earned his PGA Tour card in 1990 and quickly established himself as a consistent competitor. His PGA Tour career included two victories:

  • 1993 Walt Disney World/Oldsmobile Classic
  • 1999 FedEx St. Jude Classic

He was also a runner-up in several tournaments, most notably the 1993 U.S. Open, where he finished tied for second behind Lee Janzen. Maggert had a strong record in major championships, with multiple top-10 finishes, including a T5 at the 1996 Masters, a T2 at the 1993 U.S. Open, a T5 at the 1995 Open Championship, and a T3 at the 1996 PGA Championship.

Maggert represented the United States in international team competitions, being a member of two Ryder Cup teams (1995, 1999) and two Presidents Cup teams (1994, 1996). He contributed to victorious U.S. teams in the 1996 Presidents Cup and the 1999 Ryder Cup.

PGA Tour Champions Upon turning 50, Maggert transitioned to the PGA Tour Champions (formerly the Champions Tour) in 2014. He quickly found renewed success, winning five tournaments on the senior circuit, including a senior major championship:

  • 2014 Shaw Charity Classic
  • 2015 Regions Tradition
  • 2015 U.S. Senior Open (Senior Major Championship)
  • 2015 Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach
  • 2019 Cologuard Classic

His victory at the 2015 U.S. Senior Open was a significant highlight of his senior career, where he defeated Colin Montgomerie by two strokes.

Playing Style Maggert was known for his solid ball-striking, accurate iron play, and consistent all-around game. While not among the longest hitters on tour, his precision and strong short game allowed him to compete effectively on a wide range of courses.

Personal Life Maggert resides in The Woodlands, Texas.
