Jed Brophy (born 31 August 1963) is a New Zealand actor known for his extensive work in film, television, and theatre, particularly in collaboration with director Peter Jackson. He has appeared in a range of supporting and character roles across New Zealand and international productions.
Early life and education
Brophy was born in New Zealand. He trained as an actor at Toi Whakaari: New Zealand Drama School, graduating with a Bachelor of Performing Arts.
Career
Film
Brophy’s film career includes recurring supporting roles in several of Peter Jackson’s major productions. He appeared in the The Lord of the Rings film trilogy (2001–2003) and in King Kong (2005). He later featured in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) and other New Zealand‑based films such as The Dark Horse (2014).
Television
On television, Brophy has been a regular guest and recurring cast member in series such as Xena: Warrior Princess, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, and the New Zealand drama Shortland Street. He also performed in the miniseries Maddigan's Quest.
Theatre
