Jazzpar Prize

Definition
The Jazzpar Prize was an international jazz award presented annually in Denmark from 1990 until 2005 to a distinguished jazz musician or composer.

Overview
Established by the Danish jazz magazine Jazzpar in collaboration with the Danish Ministry of Culture and the Danish Jazz Center, the prize recognized artistic excellence and contribution to the development of jazz worldwide. Each year a recipient was selected by an international jury and honored with a ceremony in Copenhagen, a cash component, a commissioned sculpture, and a series of concerts organized by the Danish Jazz Center that showcased the laureate’s work.

Etymology / Origin
The name “Jazzpar” derives from the title of the Danish publication Jazzpar, which means “Jazz Pair” in Danish, reflecting the magazine’s aim to pair listeners with high‑quality jazz content. The award adopted the magazine’s title to emphasize its connection with the Danish jazz community.
