Jawbreaker (band)

Jawbreaker is an American punk rock band formed in 1987 in Santa Monica, California. The group's original lineup consisted of vocalist and guitarist Blake Schwarzenbach, bassist Chris Bauermeister, and drummer Adam Pfahler. The band released its debut album, Unfun, in 1990 through Shredder Records, followed by Bivouac (1992) on Tupelo Recording Company. Jawbreaker's third studio album, 24 Hours to Make It (1994), was released by Theologian Records, and their fourth and final studio album before their initial breakup, Dear You, was issued by DGC Records in 1995.

Jawbreaker is noted for blending elements of hardcore punk, emo, and alternative rock, and for lyrical themes that often explored introspection, relationships, and social alienation. The band garnered a cult following throughout the 1990s and has been cited as an influence by numerous later acts in the emo and pop-punk genres, including The Get Up Kids, New Found Glory, and Jimmy Eat World.

After disbanding in 1996, members pursued separate musical projects: Blake Schwarzenbach formed the bands Jets to Brazil and The Thorns, while Adam Pfahler played with bands such as The Outnumbered and the reformed The Bomb. In 2010, Jawbreaker announced a reunion and embarked on a series of tours, performing both classic material and new songs. The reunion led to the release of a self-titled EP, Jawbreaker (2019), featuring the new track "Bobby".

The band has been featured in various music publications and documentaries, and its legacy is recognized for contributing to the development of the 1990s punk and emo scenes. As of the latest available sources, Jawbreaker remains active in touring and occasional recording activities.
