Jatin Paranjpe (born 17 April 1972) is a former Indian cricketer who played four One Day Internationals (ODIs) for the Indian national team in 1998. A left-handed middle-order batsman, he had a more extensive career in Indian domestic cricket, primarily representing Mumbai. Post-retirement, Paranjpe served as a national selector for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Early Life and Domestic Career Born in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Jatin Paranjpe emerged through the strong Mumbai cricketing system, which has historically produced numerous Indian international cricketers. He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in the 1991-92 season. Known for his elegant left-handed batting style, Paranjpe was a consistent performer in the Ranji Trophy, India's premier domestic competition. He was a key member of several successful Mumbai sides during his career, contributing with crucial runs in the middle order. His domestic career spanned over a decade, during which he accumulated a substantial number of runs and experience at a high level.
International Career Paranjpe's impressive performances in domestic cricket earned him a call-up to the Indian national team for the Sahara Cup in Canada against Pakistan in September 1998. He made his One Day International debut on 12 September 1998. He played four ODIs in that series, scoring a total of 13 runs in two innings with a highest score of 12. Despite his domestic pedigree, he was unable to translate that success consistently at the international level and did not feature for India thereafter.
Post-Playing Career After retiring from all forms of cricket, Jatin Paranjpe transitioned into cricket administration. In September 2016, he was appointed as a member of the senior national selection committee of the BCCI, representing the West Zone. He served under the chairmanship of MSK Prasad, making key decisions for the Indian national team across formats. His tenure as a selector concluded in 2020.
