Jason Staurovsky (born May 31, 1974) is an American former professional ice hockey defenseman. He played college hockey for the University of New Hampshire before embarking on a professional career that included time in various North American minor leagues and several seasons in Europe.
Early Life and College Career
Born in Arlington, Massachusetts, Staurovsky developed his hockey skills through youth and junior programs. He committed to the University of New Hampshire (UNH), where he played four seasons of NCAA Division I hockey for the Wildcats from 1993 to 1997. As a defenseman, he was known for his physical play and defensive reliability during his collegiate tenure.
Professional Career
Following his college career, Staurovsky turned professional. His career spanned both North American and European leagues:
- North America: He played in the ECHL (East Coast Hockey League) for teams such as the Richmond Renegades and Florida Everblades. He also had stints in the AHL (American Hockey League) with teams like the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks.
- Europe: Staurovsky made a significant impact in European leagues, particularly in Germany's top-tier Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL). He played for notable DEL teams including the Kölner Haie (Cologne Sharks) and Augsburger Panther. His time in Europe showcased his solid defensive capabilities and leadership qualities.
