Janusz Pyciak-Peciak

Janusz Pyciak‑Peciak (born 28 February 1945) is a Polish former orienteering competitor and later coach. He was active at the international level in the late 1960s and early 1970s, representing Poland at several World Orienteering Championships (WOC).

Competitive career

  • World Orienteering Championships: Pyciak‑Peciak was a member of the Polish relay team that won a silver medal at the 1970 WOC in Friedrichroda, East Germany, and a bronze medal at the 1972 WOC in Jičín, Czechoslovakia. He also competed in individual events at these championships, attaining respectable placements but not medalling.
  • National achievements: Domestically, Pyciak‑Peciak won multiple Polish national titles in both individual and relay disciplines throughout his career.

Post‑competitive work
Following his retirement from elite competition, Pyciak‑Peciak became involved in coaching and administration within the Polish Orienteering Federation. He contributed to the development of young athletes and promoted the sport nationally.

Legacy
Pyciak‑Peciak is regarded as one of Poland’s most accomplished orienteers of his era, notable for his contributions to Poland’s early successes in international orienteering competitions.
