Jangdam (Chinese: 江当乡; pinyin: Jiāngdāng Xiāng) is a village and rural township located in Samzhubzê District (Shigatse City), in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
Geography
Jangdam is situated approximately 43 kilometers from the urban center of Shigatse, at coordinates 29°20′14″N 89°14′38″E. The township covers an area of 304 square kilometers (117 sq mi). The terrain features expansive grassland, and the area experiences a monsoon-influenced warm-summer humid continental climate conducive to pastoral activities.
Demographics
At the time of the 2010 census, the township had a population of 4,951. The major nationality is Tibetan, and the regional dialect is the Tibetan language.
Administration
Jangdam administers 15 villages under its jurisdiction.
Transportation
Jangdam is the location of Shigatse Peace Airport (also known as Shigatse Tingri Airport), which serves the city of Shigatse. The airport began operations in October 2010 and was the fifth civil airport built in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
