James Norwood (born 5 September 1990) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Gateshead. He is known for his prolific goalscoring record in the English Football League and National League.
Career
Early Career Norwood began his career in the youth systems of various clubs, including Eastleigh and Exeter City. He eventually broke into senior football with Eastbourne Borough, where his goalscoring abilities began to attract attention.
Forest Green Rovers In 2011, Norwood joined Forest Green Rovers. He became a key player for the club, consistently scoring goals in the National League (then Conference Premier). His performances over three seasons at Forest Green cemented his reputation as a reliable striker at that level.
Tranmere Rovers Norwood's most notable period came after joining Tranmere Rovers in 2015. He played a pivotal role in their ascent from the National League back into the Football League.
- In the 2017–18 season, he was instrumental in Tranmere's promotion from the National League to League Two, scoring in the play-off final at Wembley.
- The following season, 2018–19, he enjoyed his most prolific campaign, finishing as the top scorer in League Two with 29 goals, helping Tranmere secure back-to-back promotions to League One via the play-offs. His performances earned him the League Two Player of the Year award.
Ipswich Town Following his success at Tranmere, Norwood moved to Ipswich Town in 2019, then in League One. He continued his goalscoring form, though injuries sometimes hampered his consistency. He remained a significant attacking threat for the club during his tenure.
Later Career After leaving Ipswich, Norwood had spells with Barnsley and Oldham Athletic, where he continued to contribute goals. In 2023, he joined Solihull Moors, and later moved to Gateshead in 2024.
