James McInerney is an Irish hurler who plays for the Newmarket-on-Fergus club and formerly played at senior inter-county level for the Clare county team. Primarily playing as a corner-back or full-back, he was a key member of the Clare team that won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in 2013.
Club Career McInerney has been a prominent player for his club, Newmarket-on-Fergus. He played a significant role when the club secured the Clare Senior Hurling Championship in 2012, marking their first county title in 31 years.
Inter-county Career McInerney made his debut for the Clare senior hurling team in 2012. His most notable achievement at inter-county level came in 2013 when he was a pivotal member of the Clare team that won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, starting at corner-back in the final replay victory over Cork. He also won a Munster Senior Hurling Championship medal in 2013, although he was not part of the match-day squad for the final that year. He later secured another Munster Senior Hurling Championship in 2017 and a National Hurling League title in 2016. McInerney announced his retirement from inter-county hurling in 2018.
