James B. Preston (June 14, 1874 – January 2, 1941) was an American lawyer and politician from New York. A [[Republican Party (United States)|Republican]], he served as a member of the [[New York State Assembly]] for five terms, representing the 18th district of [[Kings County, New York|Kings County]] from 1913 to 1917.
Born in [[Philadelphia]], [[Pennsylvania]], Preston later moved to New York. He pursued a legal education at [[New York Law School]], graduating in 1895. The same year, he was admitted to the bar and subsequently established a law practice in [[Brooklyn]].
Preston's political career began when he was elected to the New York State Assembly in 1912. He was re-elected four times, holding office from January 1, 1913, until December 31, 1917.
He died at the age of 66 in [[St. Petersburg, Florida]].
