Jack Elder (luger)

Jack Elder is an American former luger who competed in the early 1970s. He was a pioneering figure in the nascent United States luge program, representing his country at two Winter Olympic Games.

Career Elder was a prominent member of the U.S. luge team during a period when the sport was still developing in the United States. He notably participated in two consecutive Winter Olympics:

  • 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo, Japan: Elder competed in the men's singles event, where he achieved his best Olympic result by finishing in 15th place. This was considered a strong performance for the American team at the time.
  • 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria: He again competed in the men's singles, placing 21st.

Throughout his career, Elder was also a multiple-time U.S. National Champion in luge. His participation and achievements helped to lay the groundwork for future generations of American lugers.
