Jēkabpils Municipality (Latvian: Jēkabpils novads) is an administrative territorial entity in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. Its administrative centre is the town of Jēkabpils, which lies on the banks of the Daugava River.
Geography
The municipality covers an area of roughly 1,937 km², making it one of the larger municipalities in Latvia by land area. It is situated in southeastern Latvia, bordering the municipalities of Aizkraukle, Preiļi, and Krāslava, among others. The terrain is predominantly lowland, with mixed forests, agricultural fields, and the Daugava River providing significant hydrographic features.
Administrative Structure
Jēkabpils Municipality was formed during the 2009 administrative reform that merged the former town of Jēkabpils with several surrounding rural parishes.
