Early life and education
Addae Mensah was born in Ghana (exact date not widely published). He completed his secondary education in Ghana before obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1969. He pursued graduate studies abroad, earning a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1975, with a focus on natural product chemistry and medicinal chemistry.
Academic career
After returning to Ghana, Addae Mensah joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Ghana as a lecturer. He progressed through the ranks to become a senior lecturer, then associate professor, and eventually a full professor. His research centered on the isolation and structural elucidation of bioactive compounds from indigenous plants, with particular emphasis on antimalarial and anticancer agents.
