Ira Trombley

Ira Albert Trombley (November 11, 1888 – May 30, 1974) was an American professional baseball player. He played primarily as an infielder (shortstop and second baseman) and had a brief career in Major League Baseball (MLB) with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1912.

Early Life and Minor League Career

Born in Whitehall, New York, Trombley began his professional baseball career in the minor leagues. He played for various teams in the New York State League and other regional leagues starting around 1908. His early minor league career showed him to be a capable infielder, leading to his brief call-up to the major leagues.

Major League Career

Trombley made his MLB debut with the St. Louis Cardinals on September 14, 1912, at the age of 23. He played in four games for the Cardinals during that season, primarily at shortstop. In his limited major league plate appearances, he recorded one hit in seven at-bats, resulting in a batting average of .143. His major league career concluded after the 1912 season.

Later Career and Life

Following his brief stint in MLB, Trombley continued to play in the minor leagues for several more seasons, including stints with teams in the New York State League and the International League. He retired from professional baseball around 1915. After his baseball career, Trombley resided in New York. He passed away on May 30, 1974, in Glens Falls, New York, at the age of 85.
