Iowa Point is an unincorporated community and historical locality in Doniphan County, Kansas, United States. Situated on the west bank of the Missouri River, it was one of the earliest settlements in the Kansas Territory and played a significant role as a river port and trading post during the mid-19th century.
Geography Iowa Point is located in northeastern Kansas, along the bend of the Missouri River that forms the border with Missouri and is opposite the southwestern corner of Iowa. Its geographical position on the river made it a strategic location for early transportation and commerce.
History Founded around 1854-1855, Iowa Point quickly developed as a bustling river town following the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which opened the territory to settlement. It derived its name from its location directly across the Missouri River from the state of Iowa.
