International Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art

The International Association of Research Institutes in the History of Art (RIHA) is an international organization that promotes education and research in art history and related disciplines. It was founded in 1998 in Paris.

Purpose and Activities

RIHA's primary objectives are to intensify cooperation between art historical institutes by facilitating the flow of information on scientific and administrative activities, promoting the exchange of research findings, and encouraging member institutes to undertake joint projects. The association serves as a network connecting research institutes in the history of art across different countries.

RIHA Journal

The association publishes the RIHA Journal, a peer-reviewed, open-access e-journal launched in 2010. The journal provides a publishing platform for international research articles in the history of art and visual culture. It accepts manuscripts in multiple languages, including English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. The journal is hosted by Heidelberg University and is indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).

Membership

RIHA's membership consists of research institutes in the history of art from various countries. Member institutions include prominent art history research centers such as the Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History in Rome, the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in Munich, and others.
