Inge Vervotte (born 27 August 1967) is a Belgian politician affiliated with the Christian Democratic and Flemish party (CD&V). She has held several ministerial positions in the federal and regional governments of Belgium and has been active in social policy and integration issues.
Early life and education
Vervotte was born in Herk-de-Stad, Limburg, Belgium. She earned a degree in nursing from the Katholieke Hogeschool Kempen and later completed studies in social work. Before entering politics, she worked as a nurse and social worker, gaining experience in the health and social sectors.
Political career
- Early involvement – Vervotte began her political activity in the late 1990s, joining the CD&V and becoming involved in local politics in the province of Limburg.
- Federal Minister for Social Integration (2007–2008) – Following the 2007 federal elections, she was appointed Minister for Social Integration and Poverty Reduction in the Verhofstadt III government. In this role, she focused on policies aimed at reducing social exclusion and improving integration of marginalized groups.
- Minister of the Interior and for Equal Opportunities (2008–2010) – After the resignation of the previous interior minister, Vervotte assumed the portfolio of Interior, as well as the brief charge of Equal Opportunities, in the Leterme I and II governments. - Minister of Mobility and Public Works (2011–2014) – In the Di Rupo government, Vervotte served as Minister of Mobility (Transport) and Public Works, overseeing infrastructure projects, road safety, and transport regulation.
