Idea Jalsa is an Indian music reality television series focused on Indian classical music, aired on Zee TV. The show was conceived by Durga Jasraj and Vikram Shankar, and is hosted by television anchor Durga Jasraj and Annu Kapoor.
History
Idea Jalsa began on 17 February 2006, and was inaugurated by the late President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam. In 2008, the program became a morning music show on Doordarshan. In 2011, Zee TV acquired the series, and in 2012, Zee TV USA picked it up, after which it was broadcast in 165 countries.
Format and Content
Idea Jalsa serves as a national platform for talented young musicians, providing them with opportunities to interact with and share the stage with established maestros, as well as access to advanced training facilities. The show was organized across India through concerts held in 12 cities. It was also aired on regional channels of Doordarshan following its success.
The program covers diverse genres of Indian music, including Hindustani classical, Carnatic classical, Sufi, qawwali, and Rajasthani folk. It was established in 2006 as a multi-city, on-ground live performance event intended to popularize all forms of Indian music.
