Hyllestad is the administrative centre of Hyllestad Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village is located at the end of the Hyllestadfjorden, approximately 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) northwest of the village of Leirvik and about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) southeast of the village of Sørbøvågen. It lies at an elevation of 32 metres (105 ft) above sea level.
Overview
As the municipal centre, Hyllestad houses the local government administration, a secondary school, bank, post office, and retail stores. Hyllestad Church is located in the village, though it was historically situated approximately 0.5 kilometres (0.31 mi) to the northeast on the Hyllestad farm. The church was built in 1880 and contains a soapstone baptismal font dating from around the year 1200.
Geography
The village is situated in the traditional district of Sogn, on the northern side of the Sognefjorden near its mouth. The surrounding landscape is characterised by fjords, low-lying terrain, and mountains such as Lihesten, which rises prominently in the area.

Hyllestad serves as the commercial and administrative hub for the surrounding municipality. Key services and institutions located in the village include the municipal government offices, educational facilities, and local businesses. The region has a historical tradition of millstone production, which was active from the Viking Age (c. 8th century) until the 1930s.
Transportation
The village is connected by Norwegian County Road 57, which runs northward to Dale in Sunnfjord and southward via the Rysjedalsvika–Rutledal ferry connection across the Sognefjorden toward Bergen. County Road 607 runs eastward along the Sognefjorden to Lavik in Høyanger Municipality.
