Humility Cooper

Humility Cooper (c. 1619 – c. 1651) was a passenger on the Mayflower during its 1620 voyage from England to the Plymouth Colony in North America. Cooper was a young child at the time of the journey, traveling under the guardianship of her uncle, Edward Tilley, and his wife, Ann Tilley.

Following the arrival of the Mayflower and the subsequent first winter of 1620–1621, a period marked by high mortality among the settlers, both of Cooper’s guardians died. Despite the harsh conditions that claimed nearly half of the colony's population, Cooper survived. Historical records indicate she remained in the colony for several years; she is listed in the 1623 land division records of Plymouth Colony.

The primary source for information regarding Cooper is the journal of Governor William Bradford, titled Of Plymouth Plantation. In his 1650–1651 accounting of the Mayflower passengers, Bradford noted that Cooper had returned to England to live with relatives and had died there some years prior to his writing.

While she is recognized by historical and genealogical organizations, such as the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, further biographical details concerning her parents, her life in England following her return, or her exact date of death are not extensively documented in surviving primary records.
