Holtebach is a small river (stream) in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is approximately 6.4 kilometers (4.0 miles) long and flows as a right tributary into the Schwarzwasserbach near the municipality of Hövelhof, in the Paderborn district. The Holtebach is part of the Ems river catchment, ultimately draining into the North Sea.
Course and Geography
The Holtebach rises in the Senne region, a sandy lowland area, within the Hövelhofer Wald (Hövelhof Forest). Its headwaters are formed by the confluence of numerous drainage ditches, some of which originate from the Moosheide nature reserve. From its source, the stream flows in a southwesterly direction. It passes through the Hövelhof industrial area, where it is dammed at several points for firewater retention, before continuing through re-forested terrain and eventually joining the Schwarzwasserbach.
Tributaries
A notable tributary of the Holtebach is the Hallerbach, a 3.0 km long right-bank stream that joins the Holtebach near Hövelhof.
