It is situated just north of the Capital Beltway (I-495) near the border with Washington, D.C., straddling New Hampshire Avenue (Maryland Route 650). The community is primarily residential, with a mix of single-family homes and apartments, and is part of the larger Silver Spring postal designation.

Hillandale Estate, Stamford, Connecticut

Hillandale is also the name of a historic 268-acre (108 ha) estate in Stamford, Connecticut, that straddles the border between Connecticut and New York. The property features a European-style stone manor house built in 1900, originally owned by the Sulzberger family, the longtime publishers of The New York Times (the family of Arthur Hays Sulzberger and Iphigene Ochs Sulzberger). The estate includes formal gardens, a private lake, an Olympic-sized indoor swimming pool, a tennis court, a hedge maze, multiple guest residences, and barns. It has been listed for sale at various times, most recently in 2026 at a price of $75 million.
