Hildur Sigurðardóttir (born 15 October 1981) is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player. She is the former head coach of Úrvalsdeild kvenna club Breiðablik and has served as an assistant coach to the Icelandic women's national basketball team.
Playing Career
Hildur began her senior career with ÍR in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna after coming up through the junior ranks of Snæfell. Over her career, she played for ÍR (1998–1999), KR (1999–2004, 2007–2011), Jämtland Basket in Sweden (2004–2005), Grindavík (2005–2007), Snæfell (2011–2015, 2022), and Breiðablik (2018). She played primarily as a point guard, standing 178 cm (5 ft 10 in).
She won the Icelandic championship five times (2001, 2002, 2010, 2014, 2015) and the Icelandic Basketball Cup three times (2001, 2002, 2009). She was named the Úrvalsdeild Domestic Player of the Year four times (2003, 2004, 2014, 2015) and is the league's all-time leader in assists (1,662). She was the third player to reach 4,000 points in the Úrvalsdeild kvenna and ranks second all-time in total rebounds (2,882) in the league.
National Team Career
Hildur is the most capped player in the history of the Icelandic women's national basketball team, having played 79 games between 1999 and 2014. She represented Iceland at multiple Games of the Small States of Europe and FIBA European Championship for Small Countries tournaments, earning several medals including a gold medal at the 2004 FIBA European Championship for Small Countries.
Coaching Career
In June 2016, Hildur was hired as head coach of Breiðablik's women's team. In her first season, she led the team to promotion to the Úrvalsdeild kvenna. In October 2017, she was hired as an assistant coach to the Icelandic women's national basketball team. She resigned as head coach of Breiðablik in April 2018.
Personal Life
Hildur is married to Bjarni Már Magnússon, a professor of law at Reykjavík University and former basketball player. She is from Stykkishólmur, Iceland.
