Herschel Rosenthal

Rosenthal was born on July 23, 1918, in New York City. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he moved to California and attended the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Before entering politics, he worked in business, owning a dry cleaning establishment.

Rosenthal's political career began in 1974 when he was elected to the California State Assembly, where he served until 1980. In 1980, he successfully ran for the California State Senate, representing the 20th Senate District and later the 22nd Senate District (after redistricting). He served in the State Senate until his retirement in 1998 due to term limits.

Throughout his legislative career, Senator Rosenthal was a tenacious advocate for his constituents and often championed legislation aimed at protecting vulnerable populations. Key areas of his legislative focus included:
