Henry Arthur Herbert (1840–1901)

Henry Arthur Herbert (1840–1901) was an Irish Liberal politician. Born in 1840, he was the son of Henry Arthur Herbert of Muckross House, Killarney, and Mary Balfour, daughter of James Balfour of Whittingehame. He inherited the vast Muckross Estate upon his father's death in 1858.

Herbert served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for County Kerry from 1880 to 1885. His political stance aligned with the Liberal party, and he generally supported Irish Home Rule. He was known as a relatively quiet MP, not a frequent speaker in the House of Commons.

Following his tenure in Parliament, Herbert focused on managing the Muckross Estate, which faced increasing financial challenges due to agricultural depression and the costs of maintaining a large estate. He married Emily Julia Charlotte Keane in 1866. They had several children. Henry Arthur Herbert died in 1901. His descendants later sold Muckross House and Estate, which eventually became part of Killarney National Park.
