History
Havana was platted and established in 1871. The city was named after Havana, the capital city of Cuba; however, the precise reasons or circumstances behind this naming choice are not definitively recorded. A post office was established in Havana in 1872, and it has been in continuous operation since then. The community initially developed as an agricultural service center for the surrounding farming areas. Like many small towns in rural America, Havana experienced its peak population in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, followed by a gradual population decline over the subsequent decades.Geography
