These instances included exaggerating a perceived anthrax scare, an anti-Muslim encounter at his daughter's birthday party, and a confrontational exchange with a white supremacist. Minhaj defended his use of "emotional truth" and "narrative storytelling" over strict factual accuracy in comedy, while acknowledging that he understood why some found it misleading. The revelations sparked a debate about the boundaries between stand-up comedy, journalism, and personal narrative, and the expectations of truthfulness from comedians known for their political commentary.
