Harold Whitfield (cricketer)

Harold Whitfield (20 June 1934 – 16 July 2017) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club from 1954 to 1964. A right-handed batsman, he was a consistent run-scorer for the county during one of its most successful periods.

Early Life and Career

Born in Kirkby, Lancashire, Whitfield began his cricket career with Yorkshire, making his first-class debut in 1954. He gradually established himself in a strong Yorkshire batting line-up, becoming a regular feature in the team throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Playing Style and Achievements

Whitfield was known for his solid technique and ability to occupy the crease. While primarily a batsman, he was also an occasional right-arm medium-fast bowler. He was a key member of the Yorkshire teams that dominated county cricket, winning the County Championship multiple times during his tenure, including in 1959, 1960, 1962, and 1963. His career-best score of 181 not out showcased his capability for large innings.
