Harbans Lal is an Indian‑born American pharmacologist, neuroscientist, and scholar of Sikh studies. He is emeritus professor and chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience at the University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNT Health Science Center) in Fort Worth, Texas. Lal has also served as the Ambassador of the Parliament of the World Religions and holds leadership positions in several interfaith and Sikh organizations.
Early life and education
Harbans Lal was born in 1931 in Haripur, Pakistan (formerly British India). He completed a master’s degree at the University of Kansas in 1958 and earned a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences (Pharmacology) from the University of Chicago in 1962【source: SikhNet】.
Academic career
After his doctoral studies, Lal held academic and research appointments at the University of Kansas, the University of Chicago, the IIT Research Institute, and the University of Rhode Island.
