Taxonomic Authority
The species was originally described by Christian Gottfried Daniel Nees von Esenbeck and later transferred to the genus Haplomitrium by the same author, cited as (Nees) Nees. The specific epithet blumei honors the Dutch botanist Carl Ludwig Blume.

Morphology
Haplomitrium blumei is a thalloid liverwort characterized by a simple, dorsiventrally flattened thallus lacking conspicuous branching. The thallus bears a ventral surface with rhizoids for attachment to substrate and a dorsal surface that carries photosynthetic tissues and sporophyte-producing structures. The sporophyte consists of a seta and a capsule, typical of haplomitriaceous liverworts.

Habitat and Distribution
The species is reported from tropical and subtropical regions of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines. It grows in humid, shaded microhabitats such as the banks of streams, moist forest floors, and on damp rocks or decaying wood.

Ecological Role
As a bryophyte, H. blumei contributes to the early stages of soil formation, moisture retention, and provides microhabitats for microorganisms. Its presence can indicate relatively undisturbed, moist forest environments.

Conservation Status
No specific assessment for Haplomitrium blumei has been published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). However, habitat loss due to deforestation and land conversion in its range may pose threats to local populations.
