Harold Stevens Hopper (November 11, 1912 – November 2, 1970) was an American singer, songwriter, composer, actor, and screenwriter.
Biography
Hopper was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was a member of the vocal harmony group The Pied Pipers, first from 1938 to 1939 and again from 1943 to 1950. He composed the theme tunes for several television series, including Judge Roy Bean, Colt .45, 26 Men, Circus Boy, and Bearcats!.
As an actor, Hopper guest-starred on the CBS sitcom Dennis the Menace, which starred his wife's nephew, Jay North. North later alleged that Hopper's wife, Marie, physically abused him on set to ensure the quality of his performance.
Hopper also worked in film, co-authoring the script for the 1968 Western Shalako, starring Sean Connery. His film acting credits include Motorpsycho! (1965), Lorna (1964), and Mudhoney (1965).
He died on November 2, 1970, in Sylmar, California, at the age of 57.
