HC Oranje-Rood

Definition
HC Oranje‑Rood is a Dutch field hockey club based in Eindhoven, North Brabant. The club fields men’s and women’s teams that compete in the Netherlands’ top‑tier leagues, the Hoofdklasse (men) and the Hoofdklasse (women).

Overview
The club was established on 1 July 2016 through the merger of two longstanding Eindhoven clubs: HC Oranje Zwart and EMHC (Eindhovense Mixed Hockey Club). The merger combined the facilities, membership, and competitive programs of both predecessors, creating one of the larger field‑hockey organisations in the country with several hundred active members across senior, youth, and recreational sections. HC Oranje‑Rood plays its home matches at Sportpark Aalsterweg, the former ground of HC Oranje Zwart. The club’s first teams have regularly participated in the Hoofdklasse, the highest level of Dutch field hockey, and have taken part in European club competitions such as the Euro Hockey League.

Etymology / Origin
The club’s name is a compound of the Dutch words Oranje (“orange”) and Rood (“red”). “Oranje” references HC Oranje Zwart, whose primary colour was orange, while “Rood” alludes to EMHC, which traditionally used red in its kit. The combined name therefore reflects the heritage and colour identities of the two predecessor clubs.
