Gura Râului is a commune in Sibiu County, situated in the historical region of Transylvania, Romania. The commune consists of a single village, also named Gura Râului.

Overview
Located approximately 10 km southwest of the county capital Sibiu, Gura Râului lies at the foothills of the Cindrel Mountains and is part of the ethnographic area known as Mărginimea Sibiului. The settlement is positioned near the confluence of several small streams that feed into the larger Cibin River. As of the 2011 national census, the commune had a population of 2,603 inhabitants, the majority of whom are ethnic Romanians, with small Hungarian and Roma minorities. The local economy is primarily based on agriculture, small‑scale livestock breeding, and increasingly on tourism, benefitting from the proximity to natural attractions such as the Cindrel Mountains and the nearby Păltiniș ski resort.

Etymology / Origin
The name "Gura Râului" derives from the Romanian words gura (“mouth”) and râului, the genitive form of râu (“river”). The toponym therefore literally means “Mouth of the River,” referring to the settlement’s location at the point where a smaller watercourse joins a larger one.
