Gunn is a hamlet in central Alberta, Canada, located within Lac Ste. Anne County. It is situated on the northeastern shore of Isle Lake, approximately 75 kilometers (47 miles) west of the provincial capital, Edmonton.
Geography and Transportation Gunn is positioned near the junction of Highway 43 and Highway 33. Highway 43 serves as a major transportation corridor connecting the Edmonton region to northwestern Alberta and the Peace River Country. Highway 33, also known as the Grizzly Trail, begins at its intersection with Highway 43 near Gunn and extends north toward Barrhead and Swan Hills.
Administration and Demographics As an unincorporated community, Gunn is administered by the Lac Ste. Anne County municipal government. According to the 2021 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, Gunn is classified as a designated place (DPL). In that census, it recorded a population of 26 living in 12 of its 24 total private dwellings, representing an increase from its 2016 population of 10.
History and Services The community historically served as a station on the Canadian Northern Railway (CNoR) line. In contemporary times, Gunn functions primarily as a local service center for the surrounding agricultural community and as a residential area for those utilizing the recreational opportunities provided by Isle Lake. The hamlet contains a small number of local businesses, including a general store and post office, which serve the local and seasonal population.
