Guillaume Perret

Guillaume Perret (born c. 1980) is a French saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, recognized for his innovative fusion of jazz, rock, metal, and electronic music. He is best known for his work with his instrumental quartet, Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic, which gained prominence for its powerful, genre-bending soundscapes.

Perret began his musical journey studying saxophone, developing a unique approach that heavily incorporates electronics, loop pedals, and various effects processors to transform the traditional sound of his instrument. This allows him to create dense, multi-layered textures that often sound like an entire orchestra or a rock band, utilizing his saxophone as a lead, rhythm, and bass instrument simultaneously.

His band, The Electric Epic, typically features saxophone (Perret), guitar, bass, and drums, creating a high-energy, improvisation-heavy sound. Their music is characterized by its complex rhythms, heavy riffs, soaring melodic lines, and a dynamic interplay between acoustic and electronic elements. The group released several critically acclaimed albums, including their self-titled debut Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic (2012), followed by Open Me (2013) and Free (2018).

Beyond The Electric Epic, Perret has also explored other musical avenues, including solo performances and collaborations. He has composed for film and television, and his work often features a strong cinematic quality. His solo album Voodoo Lab (2020) showcased a more experimental and electronic side of his artistry, further solidifying his reputation as an adventurous and forward-thinking musician.

Guillaume Perret's distinctive sound and relentless exploration of new musical territories have established him as a significant figure in contemporary instrumental music, blurring the lines between diverse genres and pushing the boundaries of what is traditionally expected from a saxophonist.
