History

The club was founded in 1994 as ESC Wolfsburg. After several years in lower divisions, they achieved promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, and eventually made their first appearance in the DEL, the top German league, in the 2004–05 season.

Over the years, the club underwent several name changes, often incorporating sponsor names. From 2004 to 2015, they were known as EHC Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg, referencing a popular American television series character and the image of a grizzly bear. In 2015, the name was officially shortened to Grizzlys Wolfsburg.
